Approved by the Departmental Affairs Council (Nov, 07, 2018)

Approved by the Departmental Affairs Council (Jun, 05, 2019)

  1. Entrance Exams: Follow the rules set by the Office of Academic Affairs of NTHU.
  2. Every M.S. student must join a research group before the first semester ends.
  3. The Obligatory courses of M.S. Program
    1. Education on Academic and Research Ethics Course (online course, 0 credit): All M.S. students must register this course during the first year of M.S. program and pass the exams. This requirement applies to the students enrolled in the M.S. program since fall, 2015.
    2. Seminar (Organic/Inorganic/Analytical/Physical Division)(CHEM5)2 semesters are required, 1 credit for each semester.
    3. Colloquium (CHEM5)2 semesters are required, 0 credit
    4. Seminar I& II (CHEM5)2 semesters are required, 2 credit for each semester.
    5. Teaching Practice (CHEM5)2 semester is required course, 0 credit. M.S. students must serve as teaching assistants in their first year, assisting the Department with college lab courses and grading homework and exams.
    6. Thesis1 semester is required course, 0 credit
    7. Special Topics in Applied Chemistry: Students in the Applied Chemistry stream must take this course, 2 credit
  4. M.S. students must complete course requirements in a division or program before graduation.

  1. M.S. thesis examination:
  1. After a review of the thesis draft, and with the recommendation of the graduate advisor, the Chairman of the Department should officially appoint 3 to 5 people to serve on the oral exam committee.
  2. Master students enrolled in and after the 2019 fall semester should submit a statement of thesis similarity for the thesis committee before the oral exam. The statement must include the introduction, results and discussion sections of the thesis. In principle, the similarity index of his/her thesis similarity report should not be more than 35%.
  3. The oral exam grade is the average score given by all the oral committee members present.  The scores are only given once.  If half of the committee members considered the student failing the oral exam, then the student does not pass this exam.
  1. The students may extend the duration of their master’s program for two years.
  2. The guidelines are effective now, and will be when amended after future faculty meetings
